our college: SENIOR years

Beyond the Classroom

Trinity offers an innovative outdoor education program that builds leadership, independence, inclusiveness, and the value of working towards a common goal. Our outdoor education programs reinforce our focus on well-being and personal development. Students stay in locations run by independent organisations that remove them from ‘normal’ life free of entertainment to distract, or technology to overstimulate.

PASTORAL CARE

The senior years of school can be particularly stressful for students. On top of commitments, like academics, extra-curricular and family activities, and household chores, or maybe even a part-time job, students also have to think about preparing for life after school. Stress impacts negatively on their academic performance and mental health. It is crucial to teach students how to identify and best manage stress. These skills will continue to benefit them throughout their lives.

Our Wellbeing Programs:

Through encouragement and careful supervision, we aim for every student to grow spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally during their senior years.

Restorative Practice:

Trinity is committed to the process of Restorative Practice for Behaviour Management (Relational Management) and all staff are trained in its use. The Restorative Practices philosophy, which is in keeping with our Lutheran approach to education and relational management, provides Trinity students with the opportunity to develop self-discipline and positive behaviours in a caring, supportive environment. Seeing children begin to take ownership for their behaviour, support one another and develop their emotional literacy is evidence of the effectiveness of this approach.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Outdoor education is an integral part of the holistic package offered to our students at Trinity and enables them to develop independence and resilience as well as decision-making, problem solving, and leadership skills. It also educates our students about social and ecological sustainability. Outdoor Education activities develop students’ interpersonal skills. They learn how to negotiate with others to achieve the best results, develop safe risk-taking strategies, work best as individuals and within teams and how to lead others in challenging situations.Students develop important skills that help shape their adult lives.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

At Trinity Lutheran College student leadership is developed through Years 6 to 12 with focused responsibility in Years 9 and 12. Leadership skills are developed in various ways through academic and social/emotional learning and co-curricular activities. Key to our program are relationships, personal development and the skills necessary to form and maintain teams. Team-work is fundamental to the 21st century workplace, and we encourage our students to embrace this co-operative team approach with enthusiasm.

In Year 12, there are School Captain, House Captain and Student Leader positions. Specific portfolios for House Captains in Years 12 include:

Trinity also has a Senior Years Student Representative Council comprised of elected students from Years 10 to 12. The SRC members represent all students in the school and organise ways for students to participate and contribute to their school community. Becoming a student representative enables students to develop and strengthen skills in leadership, communication, teamwork and decision-making.
