SENIOR years

Learning and Curriculum

The Senior Years curriculum at Trinity supports students as they clarify goals, build independence and prepare for life beyond college. Learning pathways are flexible and purposeful, allowing students to shape programs that reflect individual strengths, interests and aspirations.

Students can pursue ATAR and Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways, or a combination of both, through a structured curriculum designed to balance academic rigour with practical, real-world learning. Throughout the Senior Years, students are supported with guidance and monitoring to make informed choices and move confidently into their next stage.

RESTORATIVE PRACTICE

Trinity uses a restorative approach to behaviour that focuses on relationships, responsibility and growth. All staff are trained in this approach, which aligns closely with our Lutheran values and supports a caring, respectful learning environment.

Through restorative practice, students are encouraged to take ownership of their actions, repair relationships and develop positive behaviours. This approach supports emotional literacy, accountability and mutual respect, helping students grow in confidence and maturity.

YEAR 10

Year 10 provides both a continuation of our broad curriculum as well as additional opportunities for students to begin moving towards their likely learning pathway through Years 11 and 12. In Year 10, students are able to explore a wide range of career and vocational options through the SET (Senior Education and Training) Plan process. These experiences help students to make important decisions about their future education, training and employment.

Staff are experienced in recognising different learning styles and, through an extensive professional development program, well equipped to offer a variety of activities designed to engage students.

You can read our Year 10 Curriculum Handbook below for more detailed information.

YEARS 11 AND 12

The college offers students personalised pathways through Years 11 and 12. All students must participate in our Friday sport program and all students are required to study:

In Years 11 and 12, students select a combination of subjects aligned with their post-school goals and individual strengths. Learning pathways are designed to be flexible and purposeful, supporting a range of academic and vocational directions.

Students may choose General and Extension subjects to work towards an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for university entry. Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses support certification, employment opportunities and further study, while Applied subjects provide practical learning pathways that prepare students for work, further education and adulthood.

YEARS 11 & 12 CURRICULUM HANDBOOK

ATAR PATHWAY

Students following the ATAR pathway typically study five to six General subjects in Years 11 and 12. These subjects are developed in line with Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) syllabuses and delivered through accredited school programs.

Results achieved in General subjects form the basis of a student’s Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). Assessment standards are externally moderated by QCAA-appointed review panels, ensuring consistency and fairness across Queensland.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING (VET)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) focuses on practical learning for work and is a nationally recognised part of Australia’s education system. VET qualifications are recognised across all states and territories and are delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). Trinity Lutheran College is a registered RTO (RTO number 30507).

At Trinity, VET is available to students in Years 10, 11 and 12. Students work towards nationally recognised certificates, with full completion resulting in a Certificate and Record of Results. Where a course is partially completed, students receive a Statement of Attainment.

VET certificates contribute towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) but are not included in the calculation of an ATAR.
